About Campbell River
Campbell River, aka the "Salmon Capital of the World", is situated on the east coast of Vancouver Island with Strathcona Provincial Park to the west and Desolation sound and the Coastal mountain range to the east. Surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers and ocean this area has much to offer. Campbell River is a growing community with a population of about 30,000.

The waters surrounding Campbell River are rich with wildlife and have long been a favorite for boaters, kayakers, and scuba divers. The Jacques Cousteau Society rates it the "second best cold water diving destination in the world", after the Red Sea.
The 600 foot Discovery Pier is one of Campbell River's great spots to take an evening stroll and watch the cruise ships go by... especially while eating one of their famous waffle ice cream cones!
Campbell River has a number of walking/biking trails including the Canyon View trail around the Campbell River, the Salmon Point trail along the Oyster River and Saratoga beach and the Haig-Brown King Fisher Creek walk which is named in remembrance of Roderick and AnnHaig-Brown The walk begins at the restored 1923 farmhouse of these pioneer conservationists.
There really is everything from the bustling seawalk along the oceanfront to the quiet trails in the Beaver lodge lands.

From Campbell River you can jump on a ferry to Quadra Island and from Quadra you can take a 35 minute scenic ferry to Cortes Island where you will find white sand beaches and beautiful lakes. Campbell River is the gateway to Northern Vancouver Island and the Discovery Islands.
Mt. Washington, 40 minutes from Campbell River Mount Washington Alpine Resort is only a 45 minute drive from Campbell River and offers world class skiing and snowboarding.
