The waters surrounding Campbell River are rich with wildlife and have long been a favorite for boaters, kayakers, and scuba divers. The Jacques Cousteau Society rates it the "second best cold water diving destination in the world", after the Red Sea.

Campbell River has a number of walking/biking trails including the Canyon View trail around the Campbell River, the Salmon Point trail along the Oyster River and Saratoga beach and the Haig-Brown King Fisher Creek walk which is named in remembrance of Roderick and AnnHaig-Brown The walk begins at the restored 1923 farmhouse of these pioneer conservationists.

From Campbell River you can jump on a ferry to Quadra Island and from Quadra you can take a 35 minute scenic ferry to Cortes Island where you will find white sand beaches and beautiful lakes. Campbell River is the gateway to Northern Vancouver Island and the Discovery Islands.
